History Course Information

Key Stage 3

In year 7 you will be taught a thematic course which covers History, Geography and Religious Education. You will learn about Corby, the UK, and current Global Issues. The focus for learning will be on Oracy.  In year 8 you will continue to be taught a thematic course covering History, Geography and Religious Studies. You will learn about Rights and Responsibilities, Conflict and Health & Disease. The focus for learning will be Literacy.  In year 9 you will learn about the 20th century including World Wars I and II, the Holocaust, and the American West. Assessment is integrated within the course and will assess a range of skills (source analysis, chronology, your knowledge of a topic area) in a range of activities e.g. extended writing, source work, presentations, historical enquiry.

Key Stage 4 GCSE

Year 10 /11

We teach EDEXCEL GCSE History: Medicine in Britain c1250-present day and the British sector of the Western Front, Early Elizabethan England 1558-88, The American West, c1835-1895 and Weimar and Nazi Germany 1918-39

A Level

Year 12 will be completing the OCR A Level. They will study:

  • Italy 1896-1943
  • England 1485-1558; Early Tudors
  • Civil Right in the USA 1865-1992
  • Topic based essay; 3000-4000 words on topic of student’s own choice
