Prevent

The ‘Prevent’ Duty (Protecting Young People from Radicalisation)

The Prevent duty is the duty in the Counter-Terrorism and Security Act 2015 on specified authorities, in the exercise of their functions, to have due regard to the need to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism.

Kingswood Secondary Academy takes seriously its responsibility to prevent young people from being drawn into extremist activities.  Our approach  is to build  awareness of extremism  and to enable our students  to challenge extremist views. We do not stop the debating of controversial issues, but instead provide a safe space in which students and staff can raise these issues, understand the associated risks  and develop the knowledge, skills and understanding to be able to respond to extremism.

If anyone has concerns that extremist or radical activity could be affecting anyone in the school community, they should contact the Academy's Designated Safeguarding Lead, Mr Matthew Van Lier, immediately.
